Peter Fitzpatrick (b.) is an Australian American photographer and researcher, and Chair of the Photography Department at Columbia College Chicago. His work is concerned with the essence of history and how it is recorded. The Latitude 79 series tells the story of Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s fatal 800-mile expedition to the South Pole in 1912. In Fitzpatrick’s statement on the series, he states, “Depending on the requirements of “history” this expedition is portrayed as one of the greatest acts of heroism or folly of the early twentieth century.”
